from a place you'd rather be

It's this time of the year that you start counting down the days until summer holidays and wishing you were anywhere but at work.
Well Corona Extra's 'From Where You'd Rather Be' campaign know's exactly where i'd rather be. The team at Corona took a road trip down the west coast of Mexico in a beat-up 1976 Winebago with some of their more talented friends including Monster Children's Chris Searl who captured these amazing snaps, along with legendary surf director Taylor Steele who caught it all on film.

And if you're like me and can't get enough of daydreaming at your desk, download the new Corona Desktop Widget, that updates your desktop background every day with images from where you'd rather be

cute as a button

Last Sunday was a pink affair for my good friend Bec's 'cute as a button' themed baby shower!
I loved creating these girly invites for the day, but i'm super glad I left the hard part of stitching each of the buttons on to the lady of the hour!
What a great afternoon in the sun. I even went home a little pink myself!

summer is volley

Dunlop Volley's are quintessentially Australian and the new 'Summer is Volley' campaign for the Volley Soda Pop range is spot on when it comes to summer in Australia.
Sand in your shoes, burning hot car seats and handstands in the backyard pool!

potato head beach club

I'm super bummed I missed out on Potato Head Beach Club on my last visit to Bali.
Opened in December 2010, Potato Head is the newest hot spot in Seminyak, boasting 3 restaurants, an extensive cocktail menu and international DJ's.
This relaxed beachfront getaway transitions into party central once the sun goes down, but what I really love is the unique design that showcases an eclectic mix of Scandinavian & Indonesian furniture. Designed by Indonesia's architect of the moment, Andra Matin, the exterior of the colosseum inspired amphitheatre is covered in more than 12,000 vintage teak shutters recycled from Dutch colonial-era buildings scattered across the Indonesian archipelago, giving it a real rustic, tropical feel.

Potato Head Beach Club is definitely on my list for next time, in the mean time i'll just plug into my Ku De Ta playlist and imagine i'm there.

what happened band-aids

What Happened? Talk-up those lame bumps and bruises with these band-aids available from Urban Outfitters. I definitely could have used the Dance Off one legitimately in the past.

nectar summer

Jen Altman is one amazingly cool cookie. Photographer, writer and mum to three seriously cute girls, Jen has just released her newest blog Nectar, aptly subtitled 'slice of life and rock n' roll'.  At Nectar Jen waxes lyrical about food and family, but my favourite part is the playlists that often accompany Jen's posts, matched to the food like an accompanying wine (see Jen's weekend playlist here).

The Turkish Prawn & Vegetable Kebabs with Grilled Watermelon Salad look perfect for the upcoming summer.

1 1/2 lbs large prawns, peeled

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

2 teaspoons Turkish baharat kebab spice blend

1 zucchini, sliced
1 red bell pepper, sliced

1/2 large red onion, sliced into thick half-moons
8-10 button mushrooms, cleaned and stems removed

additional olive oil for brushing

8 to 10 metal or bamboo skewers *soak bamboo skewers first so they don't burn

5 oz Greek yogurt

1/2 small garlic clove, minced

1/2 cucumber, finely grated

Toasted Pita with Za'atar
4 pitas
extra virgin olive oil for brushing
za’atar spice *za'atar is a ubiquitous Middle Eastern spice blend of sumac, thyme and sesame seeds that can be used on virtually anything and everything from pita, vegetables, fish, poultry and more.

½ watermelon, cut into triangular wedges, rind discarded
1 cucumber, diced
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
4 ounces Greek or Bulgarian feta cheese
¼ cup fresh mint, roughly chopped
½ hot red chili, thinly sliced, *if desired
extra virgin olive oil
2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
juice of ½ lemon
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
sumac for sprinkling  *sumac is a Mediterranean spice with purple-reddish hue and a tangy, lemony flavor.

Heat a grill or grill pan on medium-high.  Grill watermelon triangles for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until light grill marks appear. Arrange slices on a platter.  Mix remaining ingredients together in a mixing bowl and spoon over top watermelon.  Sprinkle salad with sumac.

hipster puppies

The Hipster Puppies tumbler craze now brings you more cute as a button accessorised doggies in a new book by Christopher Weingarten. Nothing melts my heart more than a pug in a beanie and oversized Ray Bans....

Except maybe my very own hipster puppy... Scud (who still looks dumb even with the nerd glasses)

If you have a hipster pup too send your photo to hipsterpupbook@gmail.com

I've probably been a little slow to jump on the Aquabumps bandwagon but for those of you in the same boat as me, here's the deal.
Aquabumps is a website and daily email dedicated to beach life through the lens of photographer and Bondi local Eugene Tan. Whether it be the regular posts from Bondi or sometimes even internationally, each day at around 11am I get my fix of surf, sun and sand to remind me of life outside my office cubicle.

The photos are so popular you can purchase prints online at the Aquabumps Gallery in Bondi.
Or if you can't pick a favourite, all 208 pages of Eugene's A Day At Bondi book might tickle your fancy.
