masking tape magic
Only in Japan! These jaw dropping images are from the mt masking tape expo 2011 and I know, I know, that's so last year but when I stumbled across this amazing installation at the Dictionary Club Art School in Tokyo I just had to share.
I mean it must have taken for-ev-er to cover the entire interior and exterior of the building with real washi tape strips, not to mention the mini cooper, delivery van and bicycle parked out front (check out the time-lapse video of covering the mini here).
What the hell is washi tape? Well washi is a high quality masking tape made of japanese rice paper popular amongst paper crafters and cool kids alike because of the amazing kaleidoscope of colours and patterns available.

chalking it up
Those of you who get shivers at the sight or sound of fingernails on a chalkboard might want to skip this post.... but skip at the risk of missing some of the most amazing hand drawn typography to ever grace a chalkboard.
While at a friends house warming party, Dana Tanamachi, a New York based graphic designer and custom chalk letterer, accidentally stumbled into her new career after sketching the word 'Brooklyn' on the freshly painted chalkboard walls of the new apartment. The drawing was a hit amongst the party goers and word spread amongst friends which eventually led to commissioned works for Google's NYC office, Ralph Lauren, West Elm, The Ace Hotel and now the cover of O magazine.
Dana's secret... apparently the cheaper the chalk the better. "it's more hollow, so it goes on smooth. the more expensive stuff is denser, and that's what makes those bad noises".
To find out more about Dana and her process check out The Wall Street Journal's article Evoking the Past with Dusty Letter's

oh happy days on paper
Oh happy days! I'm not going to lie. If I was to receive a hand written note on this colour scrumptious note paper from design studio tokketok i'd probably be more than a little giddy.
I know paper goods and stationery aren't most people's obsession but how could that neon colour and gold foil combination not get you excited? Seriously.
And of course the fact that these sets are only for "happy" occasions means that it would be impossible not to crack a smile.

love shack
The sun managed to make a rare appearance today giving us some relief from what seems to be the wettest summer ever!! Someone out there needs to stop the rain dance so we can enjoy the outdoors and maybe build our own little beach teepee like eb&ive have done with their 'love shack' range.
I wouldn't mind the cooler weather if I had these to snuggle up with. xx

a snapshot of life instyle
So yesterday you got to see the build and set-up for the show, but today i'm showing you Life Instyle in all it's glorious goodness.
Here's a few snaps of just a handful of my favourite stands and products (there are so many), giving you a sneak peek as to what you'll see in-stores shortly. I think the hardest part of my job is resisting going out and buying everything we see at the show. For more from the show check-out the Life Instyle facebook page and blog.
No rest for the wicked though, the best exhibition team in the business (thats us at the bottom) are back in the office already and planning our 2012 Melbourne event. Hurrah!
